As we move into the heart of summer, it’s the perfect time to talk about something near and dear to all of us at Eastside Friends of Seniors: nutrition and well-being for the older adults in our community.

Healthy eating is essential at any age, but for older adults, good nutrition plays a special role in maintaining strength, energy, and independence. Simple things like staying hydrated, including plenty of seasonal fruits and vegetables, and making smart choices with pantry staples can make a real difference in how we feel every day.

This time of year, nature gives us a beautiful variety of fresh, seasonal produce — strawberries, blueberries, tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, and so much more. These fruits and vegetables are not only delicious but packed with vitamins, fiber, and hydration. Many of these items can be found right at our local food banks, making healthy choices more accessible for our older adults.

A Special Shoutout to Our Local Food Banks

We also want to take a moment to recognize and thank our incredible local food banks and volunteers. Their tireless work ensures that older adults in our community have access to fresh produce, healthy proteins, and essential pantry items all year long. Their partnership allows us to better support the health and wellness of the members we serve.

If you have the opportunity this summer, consider donating fresh produce, shelf-stable items, or your time to these organizations who give so much to our community.

We have two outstanding food banks in our service area.
