Connection Changes Everything

For older adults, isolation can have serious consequences. Studies show that loneliness can lead to depression, cognitive decline, and even higher mortality. But connection changes everything.

At Eastside Friends of Seniors, we see this every day. In fact, 93% of the seniors we serve report feeling less lonely because of the support they receive. Whether it’s a ride to a medical appointment, a friendly phone call, or a volunteer stopping by for a visit, these simple acts of kindness make a profound difference.

For Don, one of our members, that difference has been life-changing. After his wife passed away, he went weeks without speaking to anyone. “I felt invisible,” he remembers. That changed when a volunteer began visiting once a week. At first, it was just a ride to the grocery store. Soon, it became something more: conversations, playing games, and the comfort of knowing someone cared. “Now I look forward to Tuesdays,” Don says. “It reminds me I’m not alone.”

Stories like Don's remind us that no one should have to face aging in silence. Together, we can build a community where every older adult feels seen, valued, and connected.

Help us reach more older adults. Your donation today helps create a more age-inclusive community—one where everyone belongs.
